To be bored in the city that never sleeps is an unlikely scenario. Coming in at number two in the latest iPass Wi-Fi Hotspot Index list of top ten cities getting connected is New York—the most populous city in the United States and one of the largest urban areas on the planet.
People from around the globe are drawn to the thin sliver of Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs for an array of reasons, from visiting the United Nations for foreign affairs work, to cruising down Wall Street to be in the center of finance and commerce, to dropping into the many museums, historical buildings and performing arts venues.
Just as there are hundreds of different things to do at any moment in New York, there are also scores of ways to stay connected in the Big Apple with iPass. Not only does the city boast more than 300 Starbucks within the network, but iPass access points are also available in 113 hotels, six airports and exclusive areas such as Central Park and the New York Supreme Court.
Those connections will come in handy not just for emailing business contacts and checking maps, but also for keeping up on the well-loaded calendars of a variety of businesses from dance companies to Super Bowl party planning committees.
Check out sites like NYCvisit.com, the city's official tourism site, or NewYork.com, which specializes in ticket and shopping information. The sites offer daily events, dining options, recently-opened stores and even some tips from celebrity locals on how to act the part of a NYC resident.
For news, it's tough to beat the place that offers "all the news that's fit to print." So, check out the New York Times online at NYTimes.com. Or for longer features on the city, go to New York Magazine at NYMag.com which also offers a metro guide that covers topics such as nightlife and restaurants and also sheds some insight on local politics and culture.
Whether you're smack dab in the middle of Times Square, shopping your way down 5th Ave., picking up the latest best seller at one of the many Barnes & Noble locations or searching for the perfect bagel in Soho, you'll never be far from an iPass connection.
And boredom will definitely be as distant as those little town blues.
