Heating up in Hungary
-- -

Although Hungary is a relatively small country, it has plenty of exploration potential for history buffs, landscape lovers, architecture enthusiasts and travelers of every kind--whether zipping in for a quick business meeting or making a grand tour of the country's major cities, there are plenty of reasons to visit.

Nestled into the eastern edge of Europe, Hungary has become one of the top tourist destinations in the world. There are a number of World Heritage sites, Lake Hévíz—the largest thermal lake in the world drawing health-seeking tourists from around the globe and many special events to keep you wondering why you never thought to visit Hungary before.

And with nearly 300 iPass-enabled hotspots throughout the country, keeping connected to friends, family and co-workers is one challenge you don't have to overcome.

If you're in the mood for a lively cultural event, then check out the Budapest Spring Festival. It is also called the "festival of festivals" by its organizers who pack the event with a range of art, opera, ballet and orchestra concerts. The performances take place in some of the city's most renowned theaters and concert halls where festival attendees can not only marvel at the cultural display, but can also revel in the glorious architecture of buildings like the Opera House.

Finding out what life is like in a smaller Hungarian town isn't difficult. Simply plan to attend the Györ Summer Festival, held from the second week in June to the second week in July. The event showcases the city of Györ with puppet theater, folk dancing, crafts and plenty of celebration in the streets.

If you've heard of the famous composer Joseph Haydn, you may consider visiting his palace which has become a major venue for opera.

After long travels and endless business meetings, take some time to relax and partake in the spa culture that has become a part of the country since as long ago as the Roman times. Due to its breadth of thermal water baths, travelers from around the world come to relax, rejuvenate painful joints and visit the remains of Roman bathhouses that exist within these various spa towns. To visit a true landmark, visit Lake Hévíz, the largest thermal lake in the world.

Another draw to the country is Hungarian cuisine. Although the most famous dish is goulash, the country has a wealth of palate pleasing entrees—many of which are flavored with paprika, a spice first cultivated in Hungary. Local dishes include chicken paprika, pasta dumplings and kifli, a crescent roll that's beloved throughout the country.

And for the perfect toast to conclude a successful business meeting, pour a glass of Tokaji, a wine that has been served at the tables of Louis XV, Napoleon and Peter the Great.

You'll have much to be thankful for when you head to Hungary—whether you are taking a brief spin through Budapest or are extending your stay to enjoy a leisurely soak in a thermal bath, you'll have much to add to your trip report. And you can send it out before you even land at home, thanks to iPass' secure and speedy connection throughout the country.
