Getting Connected to the iPass Service - Favorite Hotspots
-- -

It's no surprise that the workforce here at iPass is made up largely of road warriors and remote workers. Since every worker has their own mobile lifestyle, we asked around for the inside scoop on some of the coolest hotspots around the globe.

Bob Gress, Sr. Manager, International Channel Sales
Starbucks, Piccadilly Circus, London, England:
Hotspots indeed! The past month of July has been the hottest on record in London. I like to take an afternoon break at the Starbucks near our London office. I can stay cool and get work done at the same time with Wi-Fi with a Mocha Frappuccino.

Piero DePaoli, Director, Fixed Broadband Services
San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
As a longtime business traveler, I think I've spent a significant portion of my life at the San Francisco International Airport. Much of this time used to be spent huddled in front of one of the few payphones in the airport that had a modem port trying to desperately download my e-mail at somewhere between 28.8K and 53.3K. But now, with Wi-Fi, I can sit in the comfort of United Airlines' Red Carpet Club or at my gate while I quickly download my mail. The only adventure now is the long security lines.

Robert Roush, Regional Support Manager
Any Starbucks
I spend a lot of time at our customer sites and I'm always on the lookout for a Starbucks. T-Mobile definitely has the best quality Wi-Fi connection and speed, and you can't beat the coffee and snacks when you're running between meetings. My particular favorites: near Far Hills, NJ, in a little mall near one of our very big customers and in downtown Manhattan, on Wall Street on the West Side, across the street from the DeutscheBank building

Sheryl Gundersen, Account Executive
Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Devon, PA
During a recent 5 day power outage that left 500,000 people without power in the Mid-Atlantic, thousands of people were vying for the same free wireless locations. While the "free pass" places were mobbed, those of use with iPass or a willingness to pay the day charge worked in air conditioned comfort at Barnes & Noble without the long waits others had at the freebie cafes.

Homes Away from Home
-

Natalie Graff, iPass' Sr. Marketing Manager, is based in Redwood Shores, CA. However, she lives in Dallas. For Natalie, "working from home" means making herself at home wherever she works. Here are a few of her favorite retreats.

Borders, Indianapolis Indiana
This bookstore is in an old bank. You order your latte from a teller window. Cool! Besides having the best Chai Tea Latte ever, this particular Borders has lots of little nooks where you can find a spot to work from in a really different (and quiet) space.

The Hotel Sofitel, Redwood Shores, California
This Sofitel recently updated their lobby area, including a fabulous bar and restaurant (p.s. they have the best cheesy crackers at this bar) (p.p.s. if you join the Sofitel loyalty program you get a free glass of champagne each visit). But the best part is, now that the hotel has wireless service throughout, I can work from my super-comfy bed. Why do hotel rooms always have the desk in the worst spot in the room to watch TV from? :)

The Admirals Club Lounge, Terminal D, Dallas Fort Worth Airport
I wondered if I had made a mistake forking out of the money to buy my way into the paradise that is the airline club. Then I had my first trip and made sure I was at the airport with PLENTY of time to enjoy my new swanky lifestyle. This Admirals Club is on the 3rd floor of the airport and has a great view of the planes below, very cool furniture and is super quiet.

Starbucks, Shoppes at Legacy, Plano, TX
I work from home most of the time and when I get a little stir crazy I head to this great shopping area for a latte and a little retail therapy (there is a store there dedicated to designer jeans and shoes! But I digress...). This Starbucks is in a great location—you can enjoy working from the patio outside or from lots of comfy couches or chairs inside. No one has to know that I'm away from my home office!

Starbucks, Redwood Shores, CA
OK, when I go back to our corporate headquarters for days of marathon meetings I get a little stir crazy there too. When I need to make an escape I head to the Starbucks at Redwood Shores, where shamefully (or awesomely?) everyone knows my name. The fun part is spotting the other iPass employees that have busted out for a bit too.
